In the shadows of Mount Rainier, the Sumner Valley Foundation (SVF) was born. Founded by three friends who each moved to Sumner for different reasons, the foundation grew from casual Thursday nights at Top Down Brewery into something much greater. Over shared stories and local brews, we discovered a common thread — a deep appreciation for the Valley and a passion for serving the people who call it home. What began as simple conversations about giving back soon turned into a focused effort to build a lasting organization dedicated to helping others.

At its core, the Sumner Valley Foundation is committed to strengthening the future of the community by investing in education, the youth, and opportunities to give back. We hope to partner with local organizations to provide resources for families in need, assist small community projects, and create opportunities for neighbors to support one another. Through these efforts, the SVF continues to build a brighter future — one shaped by education, compassion, and the power of giving back.

Meet the Board

Ryan Jobe is a dedicated teacher and the Cross Country and Track coach at Sumner High School, where he feels fortunate to work with amazing students and athletes every day. His passion for education and running inspires those around him to work hard and have fun along the way. Outside of school, Ryan enjoys being outdoors, reading, staying active, and spending time with his wife, Megan, and their three wonderful kids—Landon (7), Emma (4), and Owen (8 months)—as well as their dog.

Deeply rooted in the Sumner community, Ryan is excited to help grow the Sumner Valley Foundation (SVF) into something that creates positive, lasting change. He hopes the SVF will strengthen community connections, support families, and provide opportunities that reflect Sumner’s spirit of care and collaboration. For Ryan, it’s a way to give back to the place and people he loves most.

Ryan Jobe - President

After moving to Sumner in 2021 with his wife, Brianne, and their two children, Theo (7) and Hazel (5), Parker Barnett quickly fell in love with the community’s small-town warmth and strong sense of connection. Inspired by the people, places, and spirit of Sumner, he founded the Sumner Valley Foundation with Ryan and Patrick to help give back and create meaningful opportunities for others.

Parker brings a deep commitment to service and leadership through his professional background as a Global Facilities Operations Manager at The Gates Foundation, where he helps support initiatives that drive positive impact on a global scale.

When he’s not working or volunteering, Parker enjoys time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and staying active through basketball, running, and other adventures.
